Self-care can be defined by the term itself – caring for yourself. Self-care includes anything you do to keep yourself healthy. Self-care is especially important during busy times, especially if you’re considering longevity. Self-care practices are often the first thing to become neglected when we find ourselves in challenging situations. It is important to keep self-care top of mind and not an after-thought, especially when we find ourselves in challenging times. Engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, improve energy, and more. Physical Self Care - Prioritize sleep by going to bed earlier or sleeping in - Mindful movement: choose an activity by listening to your body - Take a break, maybe this is a cup of tea or listening to music - Go outside to connect with nature - Add something small and special in your daily routine that brings joy Emotional Self Care - Feel gratitude or appreciation for the world around you - Ask for help when you need it - Choose to be present in the moment when with loved ones or pets - Reframe critical thoughts with self-compassion - Take a mental break, spend a few minutes without distraction - Mindful breathing: choose to slow your breath - Schedule time to do an activity you enjoy
